Quintessence Vineyard
Quintessence Vineyard is one of Red Mountain’s most acclaimed sites, set across the mountain’s warm, south-facing slopes where sunlight, soil, and meticulous farming come together with remarkable precision. Planted at varying elevations and aspects, the vineyard offers an array of micro-blocks that capture the full power and structure Red Mountain is known for.
The site’s ancient, sandy soils, exposed ridgelines, and persistent winds naturally limit vigor and concentrate the vines’ energy into small, intensely flavored berries. The result is fruit with extraordinary depth—dark, dense, and richly textured—yet always supported by the firm tannins and natural balance that define the region.
In just over a decade, Quintessence has become a benchmark vineyard on Red Mountain, trusted by many of Washington’s leading producers. Its combination of site, farming, and purity of fruit makes it a cornerstone for wines that are bold, focused, and unmistakably Red Mountain.

Still emerging as one of the region’s notable vineyards, RKP has quickly earned attention for the quality of its fruit and the distinct character it brings to Washington wines. Frenchman Hills Vineyard
Frenchman Hills Vineyard is one of the defining sites of Washington’s Royal Slope AVA—a high-elevation ridge marked by dramatic slopes, thin soils, and a dry, wind-shaped climate. Planted in 1998 and thoughtfully expanded over time, the vineyard spans a series of north- and south-facing exposures between roughly 1,400 and 1,750 feet. This elevation moderates heat accumulation, preserves natural acidity, and allows for extended ripening, giving the fruit both finesse and depth.
The soils at Frenchman Hills—primarily loam and sandy loam layered over caliche and basalt—provide excellent drainage and create naturally restrained vigor. These conditions encourage small berries, concentrated flavors, and a distinctive mineral edge. Steady winds sweeping across the ridge help maintain canopy health and contribute to the clarity and precision found in the finished wines.
Frenchman Hills is farmed with meticulous attention to block-by-block detail, matching each varietal to its ideal slope, aspect, and soil profile. Reds grown on the warmer south-facing slopes develop richness and structure, while whites from the cooler north exposures offer vibrancy, texture, and lifted aromatics.
Copperfield sources select blocks from Frenchman Hills for multiple wines, drawn to the vineyard’s ability to balance purity, freshness, and site-driven character. It is a place where intentional farming and expressive terroir come together—yielding fruit that supports our commitment to crafting small-lot, high-quality Washington wines with a true sense of origin.
